Thank you for participating in the 2023 Mesa General Plan Visual Arts Contest. Our staff was blown away by all of the fantastic art sent in by students. Voting has concluded, and our contest winners have been selected!

Overall Contest Winners:

1st Place “Rearing the Sun” by Kayleen Santiago Vielma


2nd Place “Flowering Spotlight” by Rachael Atalla


3rd Place “Sky Train” by Hayden Johnson



Awards 🏆

Contest entries may consist of any artistic medium and must be inspired by the Tomorrow’s Mesa vision. One winner was chosen for each theme below and will receive a Tomorrow’s Mesa Swag bag. The following submissions exemplified their respective themes:

Development Theme Winner: "Small Corner of the Street" by Uyen Nguyen

Transportation Theme Winner: "A Bus Ride Through Mesa" by Trinity Bourret

Open Space and Recreation Theme Winner: "Local Sports" by Alessandra Sampson

Culture and Arts Theme Winner: "Festival of Culture" by Lou Bias

Environment Theme Winner: "Lend the City a Hand" by Isabelle Degasis


Contest winners:

The first, second, and third place contest winners will receive a cash prize and a Tomorrow’s Mesa swag bag. The first-place winners’ school will also receive $1,000 dollars for their school’s fine arts club, student council, or equivalent.

🥇 First place: $150 for student, Tomorrow’s Mesa Swag Bag, $1,000 prize for school club, $100 for winning student’s teacher.

🥈 Second place: $100 for the student, a Tomorrow’s Mesa Swag Bag, and $100 for the winning student’s teacher.

🥉 Third place: $100 for the student, a Tomorrow’s Mesa Swag Bag, and $100 for the winning student’s teacher.


What's Next?
The City of Mesa Historic Preservation Office will be holding another art contest starting in January 2024. If you wish to be informed about this contest, please let Kellie Rorex know, and she will include you on the distribution list for that contest. A save-the-date for this contest will be sent out in mid-November.
